Mary Anne Hitt works as the director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign, which strives to mobilize coal-affected communities to advocate for the replacement of dirty coal with clean energy. Before joining the Sierra Club’s staff in 2008, her career included top leadership positions at Appalachian Voices, the Environmental Leadership Program, The Ecology Center and the Southern Appalachian Biodiversity Project. At Appalachian Voices, she helped create iLoveMountains.org, a campaign to end mountaintop removal coal mining that received widespread attention and recognition for impact.
