BRO celebrates the continuing legacies of 100 outdoor pioneers who shaped the region’s recreation, conservation, and adventure.
Every time you hit the trail, take to the river, ride your bike or just enjoy a day relaxing outside, you benefit from generations of outdoor pioneers whose contributions led to your adventure. While benefactors and leaders in art, science, business, politics, medicine and other realms see their names emblazoned on buildings and their legacies revered for centuries, the people who advance outdoor recreation and the protection of public lands generally do their work without fanfare, quietly pushing the boundaries of human endurance and selflessly advocating on behalf of resources to benefit mankind.
Here, we honor 100 out of the untold legions of pioneers whose contributions led to our knowledge of, abilities in and passions for the natural world.
