Trail ultramarathoner Annette Bednosky first made national headlines in the running world in 2005, when she won the Western States 100-Mile Trail Run, the most acclaimed trail run in the U.S., with a time of 18:42 the race’s third-best time ever by a female runner. Her running resume also includes wins at the 2010 USA 100-mile Trail Championships, Mt. Mitchell 40-mile Challenge, Grandfather Mountain Marathon, Uwharrie 40-miler, Bull Run 50-miler, Ice Age 50K and the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100. Bednosky, who developed much of her stamina as an Outward Bound instructor, has also given back to the running community as race director for the New River Trail 50K in Fries, Virginia. She considers Linville Gorge, Grayson Highlands and Moses Cone her favorite places to train.
